Big Ideas Small Buildings

By Phyllis Richardson

This little gem of a book is a follow up to the hit ‘XS’ and celebrates, as the name suggests, extremely small, green buildings. The book covers a wide range of projects around the world, loosely grouped into categories including ‘Material Concerns’, ‘Touching the Earth Lightly’ and ‘Poetic Utility’. Young Aussie architects such as Drew Heath and Andrew Maynard are represented. I hadn’t read or even flicked through this book for a couple of years until revisiting it for this blog and it’s remarkable to see similar ideas being incorporated in 60k House – cladding resembling stacks of fruit boxes, for instance.
