Quotes, Quips, and Words of Wisdom
Compiled and edited by Laura S. Dushkes
This is a great little book – beautifully presented and thought provoking. The book is more than just a collection of one-liners – it covers a vast range of thoughts about architecture. The collection of quotes come from a variety of well-renowned and lesser known architects from all around the world. It is also interesting to note the different eras – and the similarities that span decades, even centuries.
The layout is simple but effective: one quote per page; a different typography for each quote (with some words highlighted) and each quote is paired opposite a mostly contradictory opinion.
This book was a birthday present from some uni friends who came to an early block party at the site, before 60k House began. Some of the quotes have even shaped my thinking about how to approach architecture in general, and this project in particular. There has been plenty of little mistakes and room for improvement throughout the project – my next house will always be the best one. Below are some of the quotes that resonated with me.
