Agency

Tuesday November 28, 2017

I was honoured to be invited to present 60k House at the opening night of the national student architecture conference ‘Agency’ in Sydney. The format was a Pecha Kucha (20 slides for 20 seconds each) and included three other young architects and graduates. I interpreted the theme of the Agency conference to be ‘do it yourself’ so spoke about my influences and inspiration for designing and building 60k House.

Sunday Februray 18

It was a mad rush to get things finished off and tidied up before I had a professional photographer mate come down to take photos. The weather gods were mostly kind and we got enough decent shots to use for awards submissions. These photos will be shared on the blog later this week.

Australian Institute of Architects – Tasmanian Chapter Awards

Saturday March 24

This year I decided to enter 60k House (aka Apple Crate Shack) into the state architecture awards – Small Project category.  Entering the awards is an expensive and timely exercise, including professional photos, writing about the project, layout and printing an A1 panel, and preparing and presenting the project to the jury and the public. Up against some high quality projects (with much larger budgets) it didn’t make the shortlist selected by the jury…

Voting open – but closing soon!

But… Voting for the People’s Choice Prize closes this Friday 20 July. You can even win fancy prizes like a Zip hydrotap, a two night’s stay at Hobart’s Milkmans Cottage and Smeg Australia products. Winners will be announced on Friday 27 July. If you’ve enjoyed following this blog and haven’t yet voted for a project in this year’s awards please click on the link below:

Houses Awards

Friday July 27

Around the same time I entered the state architecture awards I also decided to enter the project into the national Houses Awards. I was stoked to make the 2018 Houses Awards Shortlist – Sustainability Category! Again up against some high-quality, high-budget projects the awards will be announced in Sydney at the end of July. Anticipation is realistic (no chance) but am flying up anyway, just in case.

Keep a look out for 60k House (aka Apple Crate Shack) in the Sunday Tasmanian in the coming weeks. The project might also appear in the summer issue of a national publication…
